Jay Reatard dies aged 29

Jay Reatard has died at the age of 29.

The Memphis garage rocker - real name Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr. - was found dead at his Midtown home this by his flatmate in the early hours of Tuesday morning (January 12), reports Go Memphis.

A cause of death is yet to be confirmed, although Shelby County Medical Examiner confirmed an autopsy has taken place and that they were "waiting on lab results".

Meanwhile, Lindsey's record label Matador Records have released the following statement:

"We are devastated by the death of Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., aka Jay Reatard. Jay was as full of life as anyone we've ever met, and responsible for so many memorable moments as a person and artist. We're honored to have known and worked with him, and we will miss him terribly."

Fans and those who collaborated with Reatard are invited to "share your thoughts, stories, memories and condolences" on his official website Jayreatard.com.

The site explained that "funeral arrangements are being made, and a memorial service is being planned in Memphis. Please watch this space for the announcement".

Reatard recorded 22 full length albums and clocked up over 100 individual releases, his last album 'Watch Me Fall' was released in August last year, receiving an eight out of ten review from NME.

The singer, whose band quit mid-tour in October, had put together a new line-up and had only last month finished a tour of the US.
