Jay-Z appears in Obama campaign video – watch

In new clip, Obama says rapper represents 'the promise of this country'

Jay-Z is the subject of US president Obama's latest campaign video, titled The Power Of Our Nation.

In the clip, the rapper voices his support for the Democrat candidate, who is up against Republican Mitt Romney in the US presidential elections, due to take place on November 6. It includes excerpts from the video message Obama filmed for Jay-Z's Made In America Festival, which took place in Philadelphia on September 1. Scroll down to watch.

Jay Z says:

When the president got in office initially, what he represented to a nation of kids was hope. The hope of people all across the country, who would look and see themselves and know the possibilities.

A long time supporter of Obama, Jay-Z and Beyonce hosted a $40,000-per-ticket fundraiser in September at the rapper's own 40/40 Club, raising $4m for the campaign. The Republican National Committee criticised Obama for spending time "hobnobbing" with stars instead of concentrating on politics.

Beyonce and Jay-Z are not the only musicians to get behind Obama's 2012 re-election campaign. In August, Brooklyn band The National played a rally for the incumbent president in Iowa.

In September, the Foo Fighters dedicated their track 'My Hero' to Obama when they played a two-song acoustic set at the Democratic National Convention.
