Jay Z unveils 'Holy Grail' video featuring Justin Timberlake - watch
'Holy Grail' is the first video by a major artist to premiere on Facebook
Timberlake appears in the atmospheric video as well as providing vocals on the track, which features a sample from Nirvana's classic 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. 'Holy Grail' is notable for being the first video by a major artist to premiere on Facebook, where it was available to view exclusively for 24 hours before being uploaded to YouTube today (August 30).
As the video premiered, Facebook's Nick Grudin told Billboard: "What we're doing with Jay Z today is really exciting and we think emblematic of the evolution of music and how musicians can connect with their fans. And we think that is particularly evident in Jay Z's approach here, which will really allow him to go direct to a massive and instant global audience. It's something that only Facebook I think can really deliver in this way, given the scale of the audiences musicians have and the global nature of those audiences and the social dynamics of what happens when they engage on Facebook."
'Holy Grail' is the opening track from Jay Z's latest album 'Magna Carta Holy Grail' album, which was released last month (July) and became the rapper's first LP to reach Number One on the UK's Official Albums Chart. So far, the track has peaked at Number 11 on the UK's Official Singles Chart.
Jay Z recently revealed that he had a four-day argument with [a]Kanye West[/url] over 'Holy Grail' and 'Oceans', another track from 'Magna Carta Holy Grail', because West wanted both tracks to appear on their joint 2011 album 'Watch The Throne'.
