Beyonce, Nicki Minaj and Kanye West/Jay-Z were the big winners at last night's (July 1) BET Awards in Los Angeles.

The awards, which were set up in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television network to honour African Americans and other minorities in music, acting, sports and other fields of entertainment, took place at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium across Sunday evening.

Kanye West and Jay-Z picked up 'Best Group' for their collaboration as 'The Throne' and also walked away with 'Best Video' for 'Otis'. Nicki Minaj won 'Best Female Hip-Hop Artist', while Drake walked away with the same award in the male category.

Beyonce picked up the gong for 'Best Female R&B Artist', while Chris Brown won the same award in the male category and also took home the 'AOL Fandemonium Award', which was given to the winner of an online poll.

Other winners on the night included the UK's Wretch 32, who won Best International Act, Yolanda Adams, Common and Big Sean.
