Jay-Z is to step down as the acting President of Def Jam records from January 1.

The rapper took on the position in 2005, shortly after announcing his retirement from rap.

In a public announcement Jay-Z said that his leaving was about looking for “new challenges.”

Andy "L.A." Reid, Island Def Jam Music Group chairman and CEO said : "While he will continue to be one of our signature artists, he will nonetheless be missed in this executive capacity.”
