Music fans were left frustrated, and some ticketless, as the BBC Radio 1 Hackney Weekend ticket site crashed on the day briefs went on-sale (March 25).

Many ticket hunters received an "access denied" message from the Radio 1 Hackney Weekend website, while others were left with hour-long waits to get through to the online sale page.

The radio station also said that their ticket agency, See Tickets, had experienced some difficulty due to the overwhelming "high volumes of traffic" coming on to the site, as fans scrambled to get a ticket for the free festival headlined by Jay-Z and Rihanna on June 23, 24.

Speaking on their Twitter, BBC Radio 1 apologised for the glitches in their system and said they were "working hard to get this fixed as soon as possible" and asked fans to "bear with us".

Fans took to Twitter to vent their frustration at not being able to access the site. @emmatothebeat joked that it would have been "so much easier if they just picked names out of an enormous hat", while @drewebear complained that "trying to book #R1 #Hackneyweekend is a nightmare. Get to booking page and blocks my IP!".

But, as the afternoon progressed the site's problems were fixed and fans were able to snap up the coveted tickets. A delighted @emma_n16 tweeted, " I got 2 tickets for the radio 1 #hackneyweekend hurray!!!". Tickets for the event, for people outside of London, sold out by 1pm. More briefs will be released for sale tomorrow (March 26).
