Jay-Z is set to write a host of new songs for the Willow Smith starring version of the musical Annie.
The rapper will be in charge of the soundtrack for the film, reports Bust. In 1998, Jay-Z released 'Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)', which sampled the song 'It's the Hard Knock Life', from the original 1970s Annie musical.
Annie was turned into a film in 1982, starring Aileen Quinn in the title role. Will Smith has confirmed that his daughter Willow will be taking on the role in the new film version of the musical. In a Good Morning America interview yesterday (May 23), Will Smith also stated that he would be producing the Sony Pictures project and that British actress Emma Thompson would be writing a new script for the musical.
11 year old Willow Smith released her hit debut single, 'Whip My Hair', in 2010. She is signed to Jay-Z's label, Roc Nation and her debut album, 'Knees and Elbows', is due for release later this year.
