Flying Lotus has contributed original music to new film An Oversimplification Of Her Beauty, executive produced by Jay-Z.

The film, which opens in selected cinemas this weekend in America, follows an artist who discusses the meaning of love, attraction and feeling after being stood up by a girl with who he had arranged a date. Writing a blog post about the film, director Terence Nance described Flying Lotus as the best musician since Stevie Wonder. “I was trying to meet Flying Lotus, my favourite musician right now. Myself, my brother Nelson…and one of my DP’s Matthew Bray were successful. It was great connecting with – let me reiterate – my favourite musician since Stevie Wonder.”

Jay-Z is an executive producer on An Oversimplification Of Her Beauty as well as comedian Wyatt Cenac, actress Joy Bryant, and Dream Hampton, a journalist.

An Oversimplification Of Her Beauty is not the only film Jay-Z is currently involved in, with the rapper also overseeing the star-studded soundtrack for the forthcoming Hollywood version of The Great Gatsby. The album includes original material by The xx, Florence + The Machine, Lana Del Rey and Beyoncé as well as Jay-Z himself.
