Jay-Z: 'I get texts from President Obama, of course'

Rapper opens up his relationships with Rihanna, Jack White and daughter Blue Ivy

Jay-Z has opened up about his life in a new radio interview, revealing that he texts President Obama as well as discussing his relationships with Rihanna, Jack White and daughter Blue Ivy.

The rapper spoke to Hot97 shortly before a six-hour performance of new album track 'Picasso Baby' in New York last night (July 8), telling host Angie Martinez about what it's like to be friends with the US president.

"I've spoken to him on the phone and had texts from Obama. Of course," he said. "He's a regular guy as well. He's very heavy into sports so a lot of his analogies end up in sports."

Asked for an example, Jay-Z continued: "I don't know if this is breaching national security but when he was getting elected the second time, he was like, 'Hey, you know, off-courter, just give me the ball,' I said, 'word'."

Later on in the interview, Martinez asked Jay-Z if he ever feels like stepping in when he sees Rihanna doing something he might not approve off. Discussing the singer, whom he has mentored, Jay-Z responded: "That's not my place, no, again, I can't control the outcome of her life. I can't intervene, I can give advice when asked and that's it. I can provide information and then life has to play out, life has to happen."

The subject of Blue Ivy Carter, Jay-Z and Beyoncé's daughter, also came up with the rapper saying: "She's well-travelled, her passport is insane. She travels well too, she doesn't get like fidgety, she's very cool. It's what she knows."

Finally, on the subject of Jack White and the vinyl release of 'Magna Carta Holy Grail', Jay-Z said: "Jack White, aside from being a brilliant musician, he has his vinyl store, so he makes these special edition vinyls and we're gonna put that on a vinyl and it's in a letter, that can play... it's amazing. "

Jay-Z will be in London this weekend for two headline performances at Wireless Festival. A solo headline slot will take place on Saturday (July 13) before he teams up with Justin Timberlake for their 'Legends of the Summer' joint performance the following night.
