CARDIFF dance act JEAN-JACQUES SMOOTHIE played his first ever live set at the close of the WELSH DANCE MUSIC AWARDS on Friday night (December 7).

The DJ won the Best Single award for '2 People', beating Kosheen's 'Hide You' and Manchild's 'Nothing Without Me' in the dance music section of the two-day awards event.

Hybrid were voted Best Live Act in the ceremony at Cardiff Coal Exchange, while Paul Oakenfold was picked as Best International DJ.

Optimus Prime, meanwhile, were selected as best hip-hop act, beating Erban Poets and Johnny B to the gong.

A Welsh Music Award for Lifetime Achievement was given to Sasha.
