Jessie J speaks out over death of man stabbed at her show
The singer says her 'thoughts, love and respects' are with Phillip Sherriff's family
The 37 year old father-of-two was fatally wounded after he was attacked with a bottle during the 'Do It Like A Dude' singer's show at the Pulse nightclub in Southwark, London. Jessie J took to her Twitter account yesterday, to express her sympathy, writing:
I am lost for words. All I can say is my thoughts, love and respects are with the family and children of the man who attended the blackberry gig last week who sadly lost his life this morning <3 So sad...
The show was sponsored by mobile phone company BlackBerry in an attempt to boost their consumer division. According to the Metro, Ashley Charles, aged 25, has now been charged over the attack. He appeared in Camberwell Green Magistrates Court on Saturday, after being accused of attempted murder, and had his application for bail denied. He will now attend Inner London Crown Court later this month, on April 20.
Reports claim that Sherriff was taken to Royal London Hospital after the incident, where medics operated on his skull to remove pressure from an injury to his brain, but their attempts were unsuccessful. A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: "A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course."
Jessie J released her debut album 'Who You Are' in February last year, and is thought to be working on the follow-up this year. She is also currently starring as a mentor in the BBC's new reality singing show The Voice.
