Aussie rockers take a break from band commitments

Australian rockers Jet are to go on hiatus, their singer and guitarist Chris Cester has revealed.

Cester sent a MySpace bulletin message out today (October 24), explaining that the band would be taking time out from group commitments.

He explained that, after four years of touring the world, the band felt they would like to spend some more time at home.

“We've just decided to take some well-earned time off,” he wrote. “After touring for, well, ever, we sat ourselves down and realised that, with all the time we have spent away from home, Jet could finally use some down time.”

Cester went on to reveal that, although his band were on a break, the individual members would still pursue musical projects.

He said that his brother, drummer Nic Cester, had been writing new material and plans to play a solo gig soon in his native Melbourne.

Guitarist Cam Muncey, meanwhile, has also been writing songs, while Chris Cester himself said he has taken up producing with bassist Mark Wilson.

“Mark and I have been busy becoming producers!” he wrote. “We have produced our first band, under the name The Vice Lords. We produced one song together in Sydney for a Japanese band called Superfly.”

Signing off his message, Cester wrote: “The good news is that everyone is in high spirits and that the time off has left us with big grins and pockets full of songs. Keep it cool my babies, I'll be checking in soon.”
