The first clips of Outkast's Andre 3000 playing Jimi Hendrix in forthcoming film All Is By My Side have appeared online. Click below to watch.

The biopic was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2013, and is set to be screened On March 12 at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas.

One clip shows the singer – real name Andre Benjamin – talking to Linda Keith, the ex girlfriend of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, who persuaded Hendrix to move to London to launch his career. In the clip, the couple have broken up, and Hendrix is inviting Keith to accompany him to California's Monterey Pop Festival, which is where the film wraps up.

Scripted and directed by 12 Years A Slave screenwriter John Ridley, All Is By My Side will not feature any songs recorded or composed by Hendrix himself, as the late guitarist's estate declined permission. Instead, the film will see Andre 3000 perform songs by The Beatles and blues legend Muddy Waters that Hendrix himself covered in the '60s.

Other figures from Hendrix's life have voiced concern over the film, including ex-girlfriend Kathy Etchingham, played by Hayley Atwell, who expressed her disappointment with the film's costume department in particular. She has compared the clothes to those worn by Austin Powers, saying she "would not be seen dead" in some of the outfits worn by characters in the film.

The supporting cast includes Atwell, Imogen Poots, Burn Gorman and The White Queen's Ashley Charles, who plays a young Keith Richards. Although All Is By My Side focuses on Hendrix's period in England over 1966-7, director John Ridley shot the film in Wicklow, Ireland last summer (2012). A UK release date has yet to be announced.
