US rock 'n' roll theme park set to launch

'Mount Rockmore' sculpture featuring Hendrix and Presley to feature

US rock 'n' roll theme park set to launch

A rock 'n' roll theme park is set to launch in America next year.

The park, which will be run by the Hard Rock Cafe, is set to be open in South Carolina’s Myrtle Beach in the spring of 2008.

Construction began last year in July when South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford opened a 250-ton sand sculpture interpretation of Mount Rushmore - dubbed ’Mount Rockmore’.

Instead of US presidents, it features the faces of Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, Bob Marley and Elvis Presley.

The park will be 150 acres large, and around 30,000 guests are expected to be there each day.

There are few details of what band-themed rides will feature, but send your suggestions to news@nme.com with ride as the subject line and we'll feature the best on our News Vulture blog later.
