Jimi Hendrix 'reality TV' style DVD on the way

A new DVD of Jimi Hendrix relaxing offstage and in between gigs is to be officially released by the late guitarist's estate.

The candid footage was originally shot in 1969, when a camera crew followed Hendrix around for a month and captured the until-now unseen shots of him, reports The Guardian.

The Hendrix estate, which looks after the iconic star's recordings and releases, will issue the DVD in conjunction with Universal Music Publishing Group.

Meanwhile, an unreleased tape of 14 acoustic songs played by Hendrix is expected to sell for between £50 000 and £100 000 when it is auctioned this April.

The tape features the guitarist playing and rehearsing songs that would appear on his 'Electric Ladyland' album in 1968.

Hendrix himself gave the tape to his neighbour, Carl Niekirk, as a thank you for lending him some milk and sugar. Niekirk then gave the tape to his sister, who sold it for a nominal fee ten years ago to Mark Sutherland and Paul Jackson, who run east London's Cafe Music Studios, reports The Independent.

After years of negotiations with the Hendrix estate, the duo have been allowed to sell the tape. It will be auctioned through the Fame Bureau on April 28.
