Clash legend makes a triumphant return to his punk roots...
Strummer, along with his current backing band The Mescaleros, was watched by former Sex Pistol Glen Matlock, along with current stars Justine Frischmann and Bobby Gillespie, members of The Offspring, and Mark Lamarr. Former Clash colleague Mick Jones had been on the guest list but was not spotted at the gig.
A spokesman for the 100 Club told NME.COM: "It goes without saying that it was a great show. I spoke to him before he went on and he was saying how the club hasn't changed since last time."
Strummer played Clash material including 'Brand New Cadillac', 'White Man In Hammersmith Palais' and 'Should I Stay Or Should I Go? ', alongside newer Mescaleros material. It was the first time he had played the legendary venue in 24 years.
The show was filmed for use at the Q magazine awards, and will later be broadcast on Channel 4. It is believed that Strummer will pick up the Lifetime Achievement award at the ceremony tomorrow (October 31).
