BLONDIE, THE CRAMPS, THE MISFITS and CHEAP TRICK are among the artists set to perform at a concert in honour of the late JOEY RAMONE on May 19, it has been announced.

The bands will join The Independents, a band long liked by Joey, at Life's A Gas - Joey Ramone's Birthday Bash in New York's Hammerstein Ballroom. The event, to be held on what would have been The Ramones leader's 50th birthday, is already sold out.

In addition, videotaped messages from a number of acts, as well as a video profile of Joey himself, will be played at the show. Sonicnet also reports that further acts will perform live.

Joey Ramone, seen by many as the Godfather of Punk, died on Easter Sunday (April 15), after a long battle with lymphatic cancer.
