Velvet Undergound man to curate Nico tribute

John Cale recruits Manic Street Preachers, Mark Lanegan for gig

John Cale is curating a tribute to the late singer Nico - who sung with his band, The Velvet Underground.

The one-off gig will feature the likes of Manic Street Preachers' frontman James Dean Bradfield and Mark Lanegan.

Bauhaus' Peter Murphy and Lemon Jelly producer/musician Nick Franglen will also play at the show, which is set to take place at the London Royal Festival Hall on October 11.

More acts set to appear at the performance are set to be announced soon.

Nico, real name Christa Päffgen, died in 1988 after a career as a model, singer, actress and keyboard player. She was a protégé of artist Andy Warhol, who orchestrated her collaboration with The Velvet Underground. She sang on their 1967 debut album 'The Velvet Underground And Nico', contributing vocals to three of the band's most famous songs - 'Femme Fatale', 'I'll Be Your Mirror' and 'All Tomorrow's Parties'.
