The legend follows in the digital footsteps of old mate Macca

John Lennon’s solo catalogue has been made available on iTunes for the first time.

Sixteen of Lennon's solo works can be downloaded from today (August 14), with the 'Lennon Legend' and 'Acoustic' compilations making their worldwide digital debuts.

For a limited period of 30 days, exclusive video content will be included with the albums 'John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band', 'Sometime in New York City', 'Walls And Bridges', 'Milk and Honey' and the collections 'Anthology' and 'Working Class Hero'.

Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono said: “John would have loved the fact that his music will now be available in a format suited to a new generation of listeners.”

The news comes shortly after Lennon’s old writing partner in The Beatles, Paul McCartney, made his post-Fab Four work available on iTunes. An agreement is reported to be in place to put the group's catalogue online, but there is as yet no news regarding when this will happen.
