John Lennon 'drunk' recording sells at auction

The rarity goes for over £20,000

A recording of a supposedly drunk John Lennon covering Lloyd Price's 'Just Because' in autumn 1973 has been sold at auction.

The recording, which has never been aired in public, sold for $30,000 (£20,200) at Bonhams and Butterfields auctioneers in Los Angeles, reports BBC News.

According to the auctioneer Lennon improvised lyrics, singing, "Just a little cocaine will set me right… Wanna take all them new singers, Carol and the other one with the nipples, I wanna take 'em and hold 'em tight".

The six-minute recording was made after Lennon left his wife Yoko Ono and moved to Los Angeles for his infamous 'lost weekend' period.

A properly-recorded version of the song appeared on his 1975 covers album, 'Rock 'n' Roll'.

Wouldn't wipe my ass with that over-rated toss yet alone pay £20,000 for it.

This is very amusing. I have heard this tape through peer-to-peer sharing about 5 years ago . This moron payed this much for a tape that I could get while wearing my underware? This is silly. Lennon also sang about sucking on a nipple in that take. You can find this if you search hard enough..and it will be free.
