The first pictures from Sex Pistols' John Lydon's forthcoming adverts for Country Life butter have emerged.

As previously reported, the frontman has made the surprise move of endorsing Country Life butter in a new television advert.

The first pictures of the punk icon, dressed in gentleman's tweed, have emerged on the singer's website, Johnlydon.com.

Lydon comments: "I for one am proud to be British and I'm proud to get behind a proper British brand. That's why I'm supporting Country Life butter.

"People know I only do things that I want to or that I believe in and I have to do it in my own way. I've never done anything like this before and never thought I would but this Country Life ad was made for me and I couldn't resist the opportunity."

The advert premieres tomorrow (October 1) at around 8:20pm (BST) on ITV1.

John Lydon after all u have put pistols fans thru with consistent dire comebacks, going on a reality Tv show and now this, advertising butter.You sir are a washed up old fool and i for one will be changing my log in name because of the shame. U cant change the past but you can piss on your legacy from a great height and change the respect you have earned.

I will be spreading Johny endorsed butter on my toast. Followed by a nice bowl of Clash corn flakes and a cup of Joy Division Coffee. And for my tea break nibble a nice bite on a slice of Led Zepplin applle crumble. Everyone sells out in the 2000s now. Its a sad fact but more people are doing it than Johnny. And no -one bitches when the younger bands do it. Im still not thrilled but not surprised. And Duffys a stupid Amy Winehouse stunt Double!
