John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band to play Virginia Tech concert

Major acts will play free show at campus shooting college

Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer and Nas are among the acts who will play a free concert in September for staff and students of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, VA.

The show is being held “as a gracious gift to the Virginia Tech community” and according to the college’s website is “about a celebration of spirit. It’s about showing the resiliency and strength of our community known throughout the world as Hokie Spirit”

The college was the location of a massacre last year that left 33 people dead after Cho Seung-Hui went on a shooting rampage in the campus dorms and classrooms before turning the gun on himself.

The concert will take place on September 6.
