John Mellencamp makes musical with Stephen King

Rocker and novelist team up for 'Ghost Brothers'

John Mellencamp is working with best-selling horror novelist Stephen King on a forthcoming musical.

Mellencamp is writing the score for 'Ghost Brothers of Darkland County', while King penned the script for the musical.

The play is set to open at Atlanta's Alliance Theatre in April 2009 to prepare for a run on Broadway. The theatre describes the piece as "a sultry Southern gothic mystery with a blues-tinged, guitar-driven score."

The idea for the story was Mellencamp's and was inspired by an old story he heard in his hometown in Indiana, reports the Associated Press.
