PEEL THANKS FANS

A Radio 1 tribute will be broadcast tonight...

JOHN PEEL’s wife has praised fans for their messages of support to the late RADIO 1 DJ.

Sheila Peel said that she had been emotionally touched by the “heart warming response” of tributes paid to her husband.

"So many people have been so enormously kind," Sheila told the Liverpool Echo.

She has dedicated the track ‘Does This Train Stop On Merseyside’ by Liverpool band Amsterdam to Peel as part of a tribute night on Radio 1 this evening (December 16).

"At first I said no when I was asked to do it because I'm not very good at that sort of thing. But I am going to do it," she said.

"John just really loved the Amsterdam song. He always became really emotional when he played it. He wasn't capable of playing it without crying.”

Steve Lamacq is set to host the program which will feature contributions from bands he championed including , Supergrass and Graham Coxon.

The show, which starts at 7pm will also include live performances from [a][/a], The Wedding Present and Damon Albarn.
