Radio 1 announce second John Peel day

BBC Radio 1 have announced details of the second John Peel Day.

The bash will take place on Thursday October 12, the second anniversary of the legendary DJ’s last broadcast on Radio 1.

Over 500 events took place last year across the UK and the world, including sets form many of the bands Peel championed, such as New Order and Super Furry Animals.

Music fans, bands, artists and DJ’s are being encouraged to stage their own gigs and club nights in honour of Peel’s legacy.

Radio 1’s Peel Night, will be held in London’s Camden Electric Ballroom in October, with line up and exact date to be confirmed nearer the time.

Peel’s widow Sheila Ravenscroft said: “I hope many bands and venues will want to celebrate John's anniversary. There is so much good new music around- everyone should have a fantastic night.”
