JOHNNY CASH has been hospitalised with an unspecified stomach condition.

The country music legend was due to appear at the VMA awards in New York, but instead – according to manager Lou Robin - watched the ceremony from his bed in the Nashville Baptist Hospital.

A statement from Robin says Cash's hospitalisation is an "isolated incident", despite the singer being admitted several times over recent years due to autonomic neuropathy, a disease that makes him particularly vulnerable to pneumonia.

He said; "Johnny is being held for observation and treatment of this stomach condition and should be released within a few days."
