Johnny Cash tribute concert scrapped
Folsom Prison gig cancelled due to security concerns
A tribute concert marking the 40th anniversary of Johnny Cash's legendary performance at California's Folsom State Prison has been cancelled.
Prison officials said that the show was called off because of security concerns and problems involving filming rights and media access.
The show had been scheduled for Sunday (January 13) in the same prison cafeteria where Cash gave his famed performance for inmates on January 13, 1968.
Cash's original drummer W.S. Holland was scheduled to perform, and it was to be streamed over the internet to benefit non-profit groups that would have shared proceeds from the event.
Promoter Jonathan Holiff told the Associated Press that he was devastated by the prison officials' broken promises. "I was in tears when I found out," he said.
