Jon Stewart to host WWE’s ‘SummerSlam’

Comedian is currently embroiled in rivalry with wrestler Seth Rollins

Jon Stewart’s first post-Daily Show gig will be hosting this year’s WWE SummerSlam. The comedian has long-standing ties to the pro wrestling organisation, and will appear at the event this Sunday (August 23) at Brooklyn, New York’s Barclays Center.

This year has seen Stewart become embroiled in an ongoing rivalry with now-WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. After Stewart taunted Rollins on social media, the wrestler appeared on The Daily Show, where he challenged its host to appear on Monday Night Raw to settle their score. Stewart stepped down from his role as host of The Daily Show earlier this month. He had presented the programme since 1999 and brought his time to a close with a special finale that included a performance from Bruce Springsteen. The show will be taken over by new host Trevor Noah, though a date has not yet been set.

SummerSlam will feature The Undertaker taking on Brock Lesnar in a rematch of their WrestleMania clash where The Beast Incarnate ended The Phenom’s undefeated streak.
