South African leg of Live Earth changes venues

Organisers hope new venue will improve ticket sales

South African leg of Live Earth changes venues

The Johannesburg leg of the Live Earth concerts has shifted venues due to lack of ticket sales at original venue.

The show will now take place at the 18,000 capacity Coca Cola Dome in the city as opposed to the original venue in Maropeng.

It is thought the 45-minute drive and lack of public transport to Maropeng is responsible for poor ticket sales for the July 7 event.

Tickets for the show which will feature performances by Joss Stone, UB40 and various African artists are priced at around $35.

The Istanbul leg of the event was cancelled last week, due to lack of sponsorship interest. Local business in Turkey are said to be reluctant to get involved with the event, fearing protests from environmental groups about pollution produced by their factories.
