Joy Division's 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' inspires new computer game

The game is called 'Will Love Tear Us Apart?' and it's available to play online for free now

Joy Division's classic song 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' has inspired a new computer game which sees players re-enact the final days of a relationship.

The gloomy game was devised by Mighty Box Games and can be played online for free here. Game creator Gordon Calleja adapted each verse of the song into a different level on the game, and says it's about "coming to terms with the reality of an irreconcilable relationship".

The game places players into the situation of a person on the brink of splitting up with their partner. Gamers are urged to look "on the darker side of love: miscommunication, emotional impasse and the sadness of separation".

The game's publicity blurb continues: "What guides this game is an ambition to frustrate, upset and sting the player into remembering the dark days preceding the death of a relationship. Reflect on the darker side of love: miscommunication, emotional impasse and the sadness of separation. Solace may be found in the brief moment of lightness that comes over us when we come to terms with the reality of an irreconcilable relationship."

A trailer for the game, which can be seen above, features a black-and-white image of a beating heart, before showing a spiral of animated people embracing, arguing and going their separate ways.
