The Strokes' Julian Casablancas climbs lighting rig during solo Glastonbury set

New York man treats the crowd to hits old and new

Julian Casablancas launched himself into the John Peel Stage audience and climbed the rigging during a highly-charged solo set at Glastonbury tonight (June 27).

The New Yorker's performance started with a version of The Strokes' 'Automatic Stop', and also consisted of material from his 2009 solo album 'Phrazes For The Young'. More tracks from The Strokes' back catalogue aired included 'Hard To Explain' and 'The Modern Age'.

"Glastonbury... we're very privileged and happy to be here," Casablancas told the crowd of his first trip to Worthy Farm.

Later in his set, he jumped off the stage barrier and directly into the audience, causing hysteria among the front rows. However, Casablancas topped that by then proceeding to climb the stage's lighting rigging and singing the entirety of '4 Chords Of The Apocalypse' while dangling from it.

He ended his set by revealing that he was going to try and catch the last of Dirty Projectors' gig at the nearby East Dance tent, but not before playing his yuletide single 'I Wish It Was Christmas Today'.

"I think it's sarcastically appropriate," Casablancas explained to the crowd before launching into the track.
