Justin Bieber has said he is "trying to be better" after photos allegedly showing him smoking a marijuana joint are published.

US gossip website, TMZ, claim the pictures they have obtained from an anonymous source shows the teen pop star "clutching a smouldering blunt" while at a party inside a hotel room in Newport Beach.

Since the photos were published, Bieber has taken to Twitter to speak directly to his fans, many of whom are young, in a bizarre series of emotional tweets that appear to be in relation to past wrongdoings. However, he doesn't directly refer to the alleged weed smoking photos.

He tweeted:

According to TMZ, Lil Twist, a rapper friend of Justin Bieber's, was with the pop star in his hotel room when the pictures were taken. The photos were allegedly taken the day after a photographer was killed trying to take a picture of Bieber's white Ferrari. Lil Twist was driving the car which was pulled over for speeding, providing a photo opportunity for the photographer who was then fatally knocked down at the side of the road.

Since the accident, Justin Bieber has called for tougher laws involving paparazzi photographers.
