Beyonce and MCR also get nods

Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Linkin Park and Daughtry topped the list of nominees for the 35th annual American Music Awards, receiving three nominations apiece.

The White Stripes, My Chemical Romance and Timbaland also earned nods, as did Fergie, Maroon 5 and Avril Lavigne.

For the first time ever, the public will choose this year's winners.

The ceremony is set to take place on November 18 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

The American Music Awards were created by Dick Clark in 1973 as an alternative to the Grammy Awards, honouring musical achievement in several genres.
