The O2 NME Rock'N'Roll Riot Tour kicked off in Manchester last night (October 15).

Boasting The Cribs, Maximo Park and headliners Kaiser Chiefs, the Manchester Carling Apollo witnessed three frenetic performances from the Britpack.

Playing the opening set, The Cribs managed to work up and early moshpit with songs including ‘Hey Scensters’ inspiring loud sing-a-longs from the enthusiastic crowd.

Up next, Maximo Park performed at break-neck pace, delivering the likes of ‘Going Missing’ and ‘Apply Some Pressure’ with a spikey urgency, while frontman Paul Smith showed off some impressive onstage acrobatics, wowing the audience with an array of scissor kicks.

Then taking to the stage after playing a spoof documentary about Manchester the “sooty city”, Kaiser Chiefs demonstrated how much they have come on this year.

Having opened the NME Awards tour in January, they were comfortable headliners, working the crowd with a series of chants, before songs likes ‘I Predict A Riot’ and ‘Oh My God’ produced massive singalongs, while ‘What Did I Ever Give You’ from debut album ‘Employment’ and their cover of ‘I Heard It Through The Grapevine’ - their War Child 'Help' album contribution - received their live debuts.

The Kaiser Chiefs played the following set:

‘Saturday Night’
‘Born To Be A Dancer’
‘Every Day I Love You Less And Less’
‘Hard Times Send Me’
‘Sink That Ship’
‘Time Honoured Tradition’
‘Na Na Na Na Naa’
‘Modern Way’
‘You Can Have It All’
‘I Predict A Riot’
‘Caroline Yes’
‘Take My Temperature’
‘I Heard It Through The Grapevine’
‘What Did I Ever Give You’
‘Oh My God’

“We’ve been away for a while but now we’re back,” declared frontman Ricky Wilson from the stage. ”It’s good to be back! We’ve been to greatest countries in the world but none as great as the UK!”

The tour continues in Manchester tonight before heading to Leeds, Birmingham, London and Glasgow. See next week’s NME out on October 19 nationwide for exclusive coverage of the 02 NME Rock'N'Roll Riot Tour.
