Kaiser Chiefs were joined on stage by a special guest during their Carling Weekend: Reading Festival appearance tonight (August 25).
Playing the main stage, the group were joined on guest vocals by The Cribs’ Ryan Jarman for ’Modern Way’, a track his band had previously covered.
Along with the guest slot, the Kaiser Chiefs used their set to test out new material for their second album which they are due to record next month.
The band played ’Heat Dies Down’, ’Everything Is Average Nowadays’, ’High Royds’ and - for the first time ever live - ’Angry Mob’.
The group also played favourites ’Saturday Night’, ’Everyday I Love You Less And Less’ and ’I Predict A Riot’ following which which singer Ricky Wilson joked “We’re better than Girls Aloud aren’t we?” after the girl band covered it at the recent V Festival.
The band ended their set with ’Oh My God’ which saw mass Mexican waves amongst the audience.
Earlier Yeah Yeah Yeahs confused the Reading audience by getting look-alikes to appear on stage before them.
NME.COM competition winners dressed as Brian Chase, Nick Zinner and Karen O walked onstage before being replaced by their real life counterparts.
Revelling in the big stage, the New York trio told NME.COM that they were getting very comfortable with the larger gigs.
“I guess we like the big screens,” Karen O said. “It’s major fun being that big, being starred at by thousands of people! We’re very theatrical on stage so it makes it very interesting and our music is bigger too.”
The band played songs from their new album ’Show Your Bones’ including single ’Cheated Hearts’ and ’Turn Into’.
“We have something special for you Reading,” Karen O announced before the band did an acoustic version of ’Maps’.
During closer ’Y Control’ O went into the crowd and presented a fan in the front row with her plastic sunflower.
