Kaiser Chiefs have asked thousands of Australian fans to help them record a TV advert during a gig in Sydney tonight AEST (August 5) – and inadvertently revealed they’ll be playing this year’s Electric Proms in the process.

The lineup for the event – which takes place October 24-28 – is not due to be announced until September, with artists including Paul Weller, Kasabian and The Who having featured at the inaugural Proms in 2006.

Kaiser Chiefs had just finished their main set at the Hordern Pavilion and returned for the encore when they asked the crowd whether they wanted “to be on telly”. Frontman Ricky Wilson then told the excited fans tolook out for a cameraman stationed in the middle of the venue.

“Alright – now repeat after me!” he continued. “We are the Kaiser Chiefs… and sometime soon… we’ll be appearing at the BBC Electric Proms… with help from our friend David Arnold. We’ll see you there and have a great time. Bye!”

Arnold is a Grammy Award winning composer and has written soundtracks for several James Bond films and the theme tune for ‘Little Britain’, as well as working with artists including Massive Attack, Iggy Pop, Jarvis Cocker and Björk - although Wilson didn’t specify how he would be involved with Kaiser Chiefs for the Electric Proms event.

The setlist from tonight ran:

'Everyday I Love You Less And Less'
'Heat Dies Down'
'Everything Is Average Nowadays'
'Na Na Na Na Naa'
'Thank You Very Much'
'I Can Do It Without You'
'Modern Way'
'Ruby'
'Learnt My Lesson Well'
'I Predict A Riot'
'Take My Temperature'
'Angry Mob'
'Retirement'
'My Kind Of Guy'
'Oh My God'
