Mark Ronson makes Kaiser Chiefs' Leeds Utd gig appearance

Superstar DJ plays set ahead of Elland Road headliners

Mark Ronson has made a surprise appearance as guest DJ ahead of the Kaiser Chiefs homecoming show at Leeds United's stadium tonight (May 24).

The producer – who is currently working in the studio with tonight's headliners – warmed up the Elland Road crowd ahead of the Leeds band's set.

Speaking to NME.COM, Ronson explained that he asked to play live with the Kaiser Chiefs during the recording session, and in exchange agreed to DJ.

"I was speaking to them about the gig a couple of weeks ago," he explained. "I said 'Can I play tambourine on something?' and they said 'OK, but you have to come up and DJ in the 40 minutes before we go on'. As a Kaiser Chiefs fan I was more than happy to do so."

Getting the near 35,000 capacity crowd in the mood ahead of the band's show, Ronson's set included the likes of The White Stripes' 'Seven Nation Army', Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit', Franz Ferdinand's 'Take Me Out' and his own collaboration with Amy Winehouse on 'Valerie'.

Kaiser Chiefs' performance is due to start around 9pm.

To get the latest news from the stadium, stay tuned to NME.COM all day.

Meanwhile if you're going to the gig, send your reviews, stories, pictures and videos to news@nme.com with Kaiser in the subject line and we will publish the best.
