Kaiser Chiefs Ricky Wilson: 'Oasis have disappeared up their own arse'

Singer says his band are ready to replace legends

Kaiser Chiefs' Ricky Wilson has laid into Oasis declaring the Gallaghers' band have lost their touch, and that his group will replace them.

Speaking to The Sun, the singer declared the Manchester legends have lost the plot.

"Oasis have disappeared up their own arse. They think they are Led Zeppelin. They’re not," declared Wilson. "Music has moved on and I think we are the band that most music fans would see as their successor."

Kaiser Chiefs singer added that his band have nearly finished recording their new album and it will top their previous two efforts.

"Our new album is shaping up. I reckon it’s our best stuff yet," he explained. "I played it to our manager the other day, who has known us for over ten years, and a smile just spread across his face as soon as he heard it. He reckons that it’s the best material we have come up with."

He added that they now had just a few more vocals to record with Mark Ronson who has co-produced the album with Eliot James.

"It isn’t finished but, in my mind, I know exactly where the vocals are going now and how it will sound," explained Wilson. "Mark Ronson is producing the album. He turned down a lot of people to work with us — a lot of big names, who I won’t mention. When he does that to work with us, we must be doing something well."

Hahahaha really??! They have to make a half decent album before they can replace oasis. Typical Leeds fans really, no idea what they are talking about. Mark Ronson?!? So another album that sounds the same as Version oh woop i cant wait for that!! hmmmm

Kotowboy

May 31, 2008

We'll see if Kaiser Chiefs are as big as oasis STILL are after 7 albums. Also, KC have yet to make an album as good as Definitely Maybe or Morning Glory. I ighly doubt Kaiser Chief's sixth album will be as good as Dont Believe The Truth.

Maybe Oasis have gone up their arse, but hey who cares!? It's Oasis, i would be if i had made What's the Story and Definitely Maybe, but please don't say that the Kaisers are the band to fill the void, they are useless, they don't have the aura or anything that Oasis have, i really don't know who can replace Oasis but it definitely isn't these guys!

tomaszo

May 31, 2008

After Elland Road it sounds like Kaiser Chiefs are getting a bit cocky. After two albums Oasis had Knebworth- a bit of a difference eh? KC will never even make an album that goes close to any Oasis one.

iPodStu

May 31, 2008

Bless. Kaiser Chiefs? Successors? To what?! That's pretty dull. New album shaping up, cracking, lay into (arguably) the biggest band in the country. Good publicity! Other than that, this is pure nonsense. I also find it incredibly intriguing that he thinks Oasis think themselves to be Led Zep. Why Led Zep? Could it be that they reformed at the O2 recently? Mmm? Excellent powers of deduction there, Kaiser lads! Whatever. Drab.If there was to be any successor (again, successor to what?), it'd be the Arctic Monkeys. Not these plebs. Are they still going? New album?

red_cap_yak

May 31, 2008

"I think we are the band that most music fans would see as their successor." Sorry, who's disappeared up their own arse?! Not the biggest Oasis fan, but Kaiser Chiefs are little more then a novelty band who are yet to produce one song thats half as anthemic as much of Oasis' material......Don't get me started on Ronson...

the_royal_wee

May 31, 2008

wow. now ricky's disappearing up his own arse. arctic monkeys have already succeeded oasis. sorry ricky, your band is for tesco's mums.

NoseJob

May 31, 2008

I agree totally, Oasis disappeared up their own arses years ago and the Kaiser Chiefs are definitely the successors.in the way they are completely awful and yet are popularity.

Donaldj

May 31, 2008

Well, i agree with his comments about oasis, but surely since he's said this they have also disapeared up their arse? Kaiser cheifs are just a middle of the road indie band who are as exciting as a new oasis album - so not very.

May 31, 2008

Im not a huge fan of Oasis in recent years but before Kaiser Chiefs can even talk about taking over from them they need to learn new lyrics other than "na na na na na na na" and "oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo"!!! If they are the best band in the UK then we are in trouble....

DasMadFerrit

May 31, 2008

Ricky Wilson...I've bit my tongue for far too long.... You make just shite middle of the road music, your not even the best band to come from Yorkshire (Cribs, Monkeys) and now your attacking a band that at the same point in your career were the best band in the world. Given Oasis may not hold the same status they did but I have yet to hear a single track from them that had any decent lyrics or tune. Oasis spoke for a generation, Kaiser Chiefs for the degeneration (Leeds fans) I can only hope that you break your neck next time your pogoing around the stage like a fat(ter) Robbie Williams. 'Your music shite, it keeps me up all night, up all night' What a cock!

hatfullofsmiths

May 31, 2008

hilarious ricky, nice one, oasis are well over rated, 1 great album fair enough, but plenty of very mediocre records, and who bets the chuckle brothers! come back with some nasty remarks.

mozzle

May 31, 2008

i love the kaiser chiefs and all but let's face it, oasis won't give a shit anyway, they've got other things to worry about, if anything at all. i do agree that theyre not led zep but theyre legends anyway. BUT, i am looking forward to the new kaisers album, even if its mark ronson, i dont think it'll be another version, they actually write songs ..

featus13

May 31, 2008

Did anybody see the 40th anniversary Sgt. Pepper documentary with the Kaiser Chiefs on? If not, try and hunt it down and watch a band truly out of their depth when asked to perform something more than just a 'na-na-na-na-na' chorus. If Ricky Wilson thinks his band are the next Oasis he must be eating some of that mascara he keeps wearing.

cj799

May 31, 2008

Who gives a fuck what they think, they are shite. Stay up your own arse Oasis if you continue wacking out quality tunes.

blackiethelib

May 31, 2008

Oh no! I thought the Ricky wasn't the type of cliched idiot to make a comment like that, leave it too the tom clarke's of the world.Yes Kaiser Chiefs make good tunes, but it's arctic monkeys that capture the heart of the nation in the way Oasis did, and they do it without conforming to expectations aswell.Anyone who went to Trafford will agree I'm sure! :-)Anyway The Cribs kick Kaisers arse for writing tunes!

mbowie9

May 31, 2008

ha ha ha aye and i suppose My Chemical Romance are the next Rolling Stones- ha ha TITS!!! but i reckon the NME'll agree with Kaiser Cheifs - hhmm Shakermaker or The Modern Way!! i thinks Noel's reign as King of British music is safe!!!

jazchaz

May 31, 2008

To be honest, Kaisers have got it spot onBut only about Oasis being up themselves. I personally feel i have to have to some kind of hatred at Oasis because they really think they are just the dog's bollocks. Unfortunately that is the case, they are awesomeKaisers on the other hand, got a big crowd but didnt even sell out Elland Road, and its in their home town! As for replacing Oasis, most bands are better than Kaiser, they have some good records but Ricky's voice becomes a drone if listened to for too longIf Kaisers managed to sell-out Wembley Stadium for instance, then things would be different, but at the moment, they are still nowhere close.

a11mark

May 31, 2008

Ricky Ricky Ricky.....ITs not about the comments you make its about the music you make that defys your band. if you make the music (thats successfull you can talk whatever crap you want) but mate the only success you have is that you sold out a gig. if you want to prove this theory then get your album finished and go head to head with oasis.

gibbl011

Jun 1, 2008

Haha really? I don't remember seeing Kaiser Chiefs in the NME top 20 Best Rock and Roll bands. I'm not a huge Oasis or Kaiser Chiefs fan, I'm more Manic Street Preachers, but Oasis are Oasis, and will always be Oasis. They are irreplacible, no one can be the 'new' Oasis. I can't wait to hear the new Kaiser album then, seeing as the I've-got-no-talent-and-no-original-ideas Mark Ronson is producing it.

kylia5862

Jun 1, 2008

i bet Oasis are shitting themselves...

rggfoot

Jun 1, 2008

Laughable. "I predict a riot" is their only quality tune. While Oasis have faded somewhat, they still have a cult following. Will the Kaiser Chiefs sell out MSG twelve years after their inception? Don't think so. I hope the lads don't waste their time responding to this twat.

jackclark3

Jun 1, 2008

just cause kaiser chiefs played 1 gig to about 35,000 people they think there the best around....... 35,000 people will never compare to oasis knebworth concert!!! and even if oasis are not doing much these days, it'll be a good band like arctic monkeys who are taking over, because kaisers had a few good tracks on thier 1st album, but their second sounded like pure desperation. ricky you will never take over, cause your just runner up in my eyes.... no hard feelings your music is still great

numberonestrokesfan

Jun 1, 2008

i don't like chiefs, but i'm glad someone actually has the balls to badmouth oasis, all the music mags like q and nme, and all artists seem to have their tongues up noel's arse. its all been mediocre since the 1st two albums, and people still love him. If thats the case, then Ian Brown should be the king cos stone roses 1st album inspired oasis' and was better

Ha!!!! Kaisers are nothing compared to Oasis

Jun 1, 2008

Well Dicky would know about disappearing up his own arse at least Oasis can sit quite smuggly up their's with an impressive back catalogue and legacy. I know hate's a strong word but I hate Ricky Wilson. Yes they reached number one for Ruby but that's in a chart that has Rihanna, Ting Tings, Leona Lewis and others dominating it! It's such a shame he has to resort to such arrogance to make himself heard!

gillen_666

sorry mate, but maybe when your guitarist stops looking as if he was in oasis before you slag them off?

seamonkey007

Jun 1, 2008

Well.... 2 dull bands... I can't stand Oasis but at least their 1st Lp was 'ok' Rickys band are complete sell outs... they would wank off tramps, for a chance to play in a stadium... come to think it so would Oasis... ;)

What an absolute idiot Ricky Wilson is!!not only is his band the most overrated band in the country they're the worst dressed!!if anyone band has disappeared up it's own arse then it's his own..so they've just done Elland road...whoo!!wether you like or loathe Oasis this band has set music lovers bickering for over 15 years now,the truth is Def Maybe and Morning glory are stonkers and Knebworth was iconic for that generation,The Arctic's and The Cribs both look and sound better than his band..even their name is crap!!Don't get me started on Mark Ronson producing fOr them...Ruby!Ruby!Ruby!Oh My God!I predict a Riot!!!...coloumbia...Bring It On Down..Rock 'n' roll Star...Slide Away...Ricky you're not even looked upon as a rock star more a chav wanna be...OASIS!!!.

this is a laugh haha i cant actually believe ricky wilson of all people said this :| kaisers arent anything special, and when compared to oasis they are complete sh*t. Jun 1, 2008

I've been listening to music for almost 20 years and i like Oasis. They were the band of my teens. But as much as i love their attitude, swagger and fashion sense, they have failed to release a classic album. Saying that the Kaiser Chiefs have a couple of catchy Blur-esque tunes but being realistic how could they ever top Oasis? Hmmm? How is being silly now?

DaveIndieBoy

This is hilarious....Definitely Maybe v EmploymentWhat's The Story... v ...Angry MobSorry Ricky, but you don't even come close

Oasis_Dublin

Jun 1, 2008

1 gig in front of a decent crowd and they think they are in the same league as Oasis!? I liked it better when Ricky was a brown nose to Liam Gallagher, being happy to be on the end of Liam's ''bad Blur'' jibe.

mattthechef

Jun 1, 2008

After reading the article and comments i feel compelled to leave a comment. plain and simple, in 10 years time when people are at the summer festivals, what songs do you think they'll be singing in the campsite whilst getting pished off they're arses, Wonderwall, Rock and Roll Star, Live Forever or nananananana, Ruby, or the oh so boring and tired I Predict a Riot. The anwser is obvious but i do predict a fucking riot when the Gallaghers see wicky boy next! Ha! Pap.

underclasshero

Jun 1, 2008

Oasis are so far up there own backsides its unreal, well i say Oasis i mean Noel and Liam (does anyone even care about the other 2 blokes haha) but the Kaisers do need to come up with some slightly better lyrics first, i mean "Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruby" and "Na Na Na Na Naaa Na" are not very imaginative are they. And like hell are Oasis even slightly close to being the best rock band in the UK, good god no there are hundreds and hundreds of bands who are better than Liam and Noel.

andyc53

Jun 1, 2008

LOL yeah yeah yeah, we've heard all this before just seems it's the lastest fashionable trend to slag off Oasis really. I'm a huge fan both bands but come on Ricky forget bands "dissapearing up there own arse", have a good look and the mirror and see who's talking out of there's. Two words Ricky, "Definately Maybe" so nothin' you say really matters where oasis are concerned. Plus I don't know about everyone else but I'm sick and tired of people not liking bands just because ty don't like the personalities of the band members because they're not your friends so why does it matter! Both bands are great, Kaisers are fantastic but oasis is oasis and kaisers will never be a patch on them.

jamiebb

Jun 1, 2008

Its a shame Ricky has to say something like that, I think the Elland Road gig has increased the size of the kaisers' ego tenfold. And anyway whats the point in being controversial for the sake of it, The Arctics aren't and they're way bigger than the kaisers

BorstalBreakout

Jun 1, 2008

I almost feel sorry for the Kaiser Chiefs being such fake, middle class dorks.I live in Leeds and I have to say despite all their posturing, not one of them has a real Leeds accent, They are such nice, nice boys trying so hard to be bad.Oh yes, and they suck :-)

binstig

Jun 1, 2008

Even though I don't rate the Kaisers at all I'm so glad someone in Ricky's position has come out and said what most sane people have been thinking.

dougjahuggins

The fucking Courteeners album is better than the Kaisers entire catalouge so Rick should shut the fuck up.He's not worthy to lace up Noel's guitar strings. What a twat.

me=you=poo

Jun 1, 2008

It's true, Oasis have disapeared up their own arse, but everyone already knew that. I just can't help but think that this is just another way for The Kaiser's to get publicity and spark a feud.. The Problem with saying dumb things like this is, well what if the new LP is a piece of shit? They'll look like a bigger bunch of twat's then they already do.

Golfman

Jun 1, 2008

Ive been saying for years how more and more stuck up Oasis were getting. Absolute pricks! Yeah, granted they make some fantastic music but i agree with what Ricky says....in fact i dont even believe he said this as it was from The Sun and i dont believe he said it. The Kaisers make some very good songs and apparently their next album is supposed to be very good indeed...Would love to have seen robbie williams have a boxing match with Liam and kick his arse. na na na na na!

tuohyam

Jun 1, 2008

This is comical. I once thought KC had potential, but after hearing their records, I think they are pure trash. Their songs mostly blow. "Ruby" made me believe KC was worse than the indie shit I hear in Seattle. Being an American, I have no bias. Oasis is a great band that actually matters. They are the last great real rock band to exist. Their early work equals the masters of the 60's. Their new work is still the best music out there. Any idiot who thinks they're better than the Gallaghers truly has no musical sense. I hope KC ends their career soon before they embarrass themselves.

iPodStu

Jun 1, 2008

I completely agree with Jamiebb. The Arctic Monkeys are massive and the Kaisers aren't. Admittedly, Oasis are my favourite band and provided me with some of my best memories so I'm somewhat biased. But the Kaisers simply can't compare with Oasis. Very few can, because let's face it, how many bands have spearheaded a whole movement? Not many, and certainly none since the 90s.

howarj

Jun 1, 2008

This is very amusing - the Kaiser Chiefs have done nothing worth mentioning yet so what makes them think they are anything close to Oasis? Sounds like a daft publicity stunt as they are such a dull and boring band.

rick 13

Jun 1, 2008

ricky wilson must have something wrong with his brian to even think they are better than oasis let alone think it. oasis are one of the greatest bands of all time, its like compareing scouting for girls to the rolling stones, the kaisers are a very poor band that make quite pathetic songs...OASIS TILL I DIE!!!

ed2005

Jun 1, 2008

I took flack for being an Oasis fan at school in 1994 (yes, I'm 31, old people read NME too) and was pleased to see them do well. But from Be Here Now onwards they have been trading on former glories. Anyone who raves about how good Oasis were at Glastonbury wasn''t there, I was the band of the weekend were pulp by a country mile.Mind you, like the Kaisers, but think they need to deliver something more radical for their third album.

Ya_dafty

Jun 1, 2008

The comments about Oasis are spot on - too interested in the posh meals offered by Londons swanky restaurants. That said, Oasis have been legends and there is no way Kaisers come close. Personally I prefer Kasabian to Kaisers but that's only my opinion. A re-union of the Stone Roses would fill the void, settle any debate and make us all very very happy.

Nolly93

Jun 1, 2008

the thing is the kaiser chiefs are posh middle class wankers and are just an overrated indie band.Oasis are literally came from nothing and turned into the biggest band in the world without letting themselves be changed by anyone..ricky...yes we want history but ur shit-blur-band are the most unlikely to write it.Oasis will live forever.& Leeds lost against Doncaster HAHAHA ( i support Manchester City but its hilarious that their team lost )Louise x

janiceramone

Jun 1, 2008

The readers of this magazine recently voted Oasis the best Rock'n'Roll band of all time. If nothing else it shows the esteem in which they are held. Oasis where the band of their generation and still to this day have more balls, charisma and wit than any other band. Kaiser Chiefs on the other hand weren't even the best band at their own home coming gig - Pathetic! Ricky Wilson has obviosly taken a short break from eating his way onto the NHS waiting list to remind us what an absolute cock he truely is.

jennyn88

Jun 1, 2008

I can't believe people are going mental about these comments that have come from the Sun! What a reliable source that is.... the newspaper that interprets comments into controversy to sell newspapers. It makes me wonder if these comments are actually true.

westofwhatever

Jun 1, 2008

arctic monkeys have to make a bit more of an impression on the rest of the world to ever become oasis' sucessors. oasis is a big band everywhere, monkeys not so much. as far as ricky's comments, i think they're a good live band but they're not even the best band in yorkshire. the cribs are still underrated.

iPodStu

Jun 1, 2008

This is fantastic, I don't think I've ever commented on here before but here's 3 in a row! I can't believe people who have such a pedestrian view of things, for example, "trading on former glories" - what does that mean?! Be Here Now was OK, SOTSOG was OK but Heathen Chemistry was very good and Don't Believe the Truth was excellent. It's so lazy to compare each album with Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory. Compare them to what else is being released these days, then tell me they're trading on former glories. Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Born on a Different Cloud, Little By Little, Songbird, The Hindu Times, Turn Up The Sun, Lyla, The Importance of Being Idle, Keep the Dream Alive, Let There Be Love are all superb songs that could well have lived amongst the first two albums. The ones I haven't mentioned aren't necessarily as good but still very good songs (such as Part of the Queue). And I tell you something, if I had their money, I'd be going to posh restaurants too. :) Just because they can afford nice things doesn't mean a thing. Disappearing up your own arse to me indicates losing touch with reality, and I can't imagine that'd ever happen to Oasis.

nads1970

Jun 1, 2008

I must admit, I love both Oasis and Kaiser Chiefs, seen both live plenty of times but sorry to disappoint the Kaiser's but live it's a bit like watching Lewis Hamilton race against Jeremy Clarkson! Kaiser's are a bloody good band but a totally different sound and kudos to Oasis. Oasis have earned the right to be held in the highest esteem. If you look at the last few decades and there are few truly great bands that everyone remembers - Led Zep, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Jam, U2, Oasis, Greenday. I honestly don't think Kaiser Chiefs will join this illustrious list!

Ya_dafty

Jun 1, 2008

IPODSTUOasis have been great, no doubt about it but calm down there. The point about going to nice restaurants is not literally going to nice restaurants, it means they have lost their edge and are playing the celebrity circuit the celebrity way. When the first made it, they may have gone on those circuits but they did it their way. Ofcourse growing up has something to do with it but the edge they once had is long gone, both as people and as musicians. Liam's passion is long gone. Noel will always be talented but as his albums have proven, he is struggling and thats by his own admission. Also, you say "the ones I haven't mentioned are necessarily GOOD but still VERY GOOD - make your mind up boss?I think Kaisers have a point but they're well well away from taking over!

oh dear oh dear. just fell off my chair with laughter after reading that. what a nob. his band are simply shit, and have't even touched the heights of defo maybe or whats the story, to be honest I dobut they ever will do. Mark Ronson? who gives a fuck about him too. Can't wait to hear the new jazz tinged shit that this incredibely average band will churn out. I predict a shit album.....

mr murphy

Jun 1, 2008

Oasis have been up there own arse for twelve years. But can you imagine what noel thought when he heard that fat prick slagging him off. Kaiser chiefs are bollocks and both albums were average for the first couple of listens and now totally irrelevant. But oasis live off there mid 90s reputation these days also and I hope this new album is better than the last five because if it is'nt maybe its time to wrap up. I think arctic monkeys are the only ones who can take over from oasis simply because they are young and alex turner will only get better with age.

RKIDSCD

Jun 1, 2008

Don't make me laugh!!! This is the most ridiculous thing ive heard!! Maybe he has a chip on his shoulder because Oasis don't associate with the likes of these morons. Oasis made and still make a huge contribution to british guitar music and reading rubbish from a band who I can honestly say I don't know one person who likes them makes me laugh. How can anyone possibly take Kaiser Chiefs songs seriously?? They are a load of rubbish, "ruby ruby ruby ruby"?? Noel and Liam wouldn't been seen dead making rubbish like that. Can anyone honestly say that Kaiser Chiefs will create albums and b-sides as great as oasis have?

"WE ARE THE ANGRY MOB, WE READ THE PAPERS EVERYDAY." the song was written to warn the public not to beleive the load of shite written in the tabloids, and now everyone is going mental over a load of "quotes" from The Sun of all places. Kaiser Chiefs have done brilliantly over the last few years, and they didnt sell out Elland Road in a few days by being shit.

is it me or does ricky wilson just look like a sweaty office worker singing karaoke at the christmas party? Noel & Liam have always been up their own arses, and too right, they blow everything else out of the water when they get on stage!

CeCe_Baby

Jun 2, 2008

I totally agree with 'emmascientist', dont believe everything you read, especially when it comes from The Sun, i mean lets face it they'll do anything to sell a newspaper. Im not saying Oasis aint good, anyone with ears can tell that they are a great band, but there no way that Ricky would say that the kaiser Chiefs are better than Oasis, any KC fan would know that. Plus the Kaiser Chiefs have done great and Elland Road was an amazing gig. Are they better than Oasis? no. Will they ever be as good as Oasis? lets face it probably not. But they are still a great band. Im a huge Kaiser Chiefs fan and i dont believe a word that was written in the Sun!

ed2005

Jun 2, 2008

IPODSTU -by trading on former glories, what i mean is that because oasis' first two albums were so very good, people still keep going to see them, and buying the music because of what they once produced. there have been some good Oasis singles post 1997 -'Hindu Times' 'Crying' 'Idle' but some dross too 'Lyla' for example. And as for the way that Noel keeps slagging bands off for being to university...salt and vinegar for that chip on your shoulder, mate? Plenty of working class people go to university.BTW: I could probably write the interviews for the next Oasis album now: 'we got it slightly wrong with our last album but this time we got it right. Oh and we hate bands X, Y and Z for having gone to university.

That is possibly the stupidest thing I have ever heard in my life. Wilson says Oasis have dissapeared up their own arse but he obviously has his head so far up his own arse sniffing what he had for dinner last night for so long that he has got so confused he is comparing his mediocre band that has lost its spark to a group with legendary status who have consistently produced good music and continue to do so.

kasier chiefs areok, but they got the same problem of which they talk oasis would have. there are some points which proove the absolute foolness of wilsons speech: 1. defmab and morning glory2. almost all of the sinles oasis relaeased were qualitywise and commercially a massive sucess3. buy yourself the stop the clocks album, ricky and compare the backcatlogue respectively uk AND worldwide chart-succes over the years?so, tell me, ricky: what is thedifference between oasis and kaiser chiefs?
