Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson has spoken about the band's progress in writing the follow-up to their 2011 fourth album 'The Future Is Medieval'.

The Leeds band released their latest offering 'Souvenir: The Singles 2004 – 2012' last Monday (June 4), a singles collection.

'Souvenir' features 16 tracks in all, including two brand new tracks 'Listen To Your Head' and 'On The Run'. The collection also includes material from across the band's four studio albums and features hit singles 'Oh My God', 'Ruby', 'I Predict A Riot' and 'Modern Way'.

Speaking to NME, Wilson revealed that the band all have a few bits written, but that recording and writing wouldn't begin in earnest until after the summer festivals and would be put on hold when he tours Europe as part of War Of The Worlds.

Asked about the band's plans for their fifth album, Wilson said: "I always think it's weird when bands put something out and then immediately start talking about the next thing, it sounds apologetic. There's always stuff going on. There's always hard drives, there's always notebooks. I've put pen to paper, but I've not set foot in a studio. We've got festivals after this and then the band have all got next Christmas off while I do 'War Of The Worlds'."

Wilson then said that the band didn't regret their experimental release process of 'The Future Is Medieval', where they allowed fans to pick their own album from a list of 20 tracks.

Asked if they regretted doing such an unconventional release, Wilson said: "Everything that came from it was pretty positive. We won more awards for that album than we've ever won. The idea and how we did it was great. I'm glad we did it."

Then asked if he'd do it again, the singer said: "No, I don't think so. We wouldn't do it again. I'd definitely do something different again. I'd like to see someone do what we did with a 'Best Of'."

He continued: "If it was a really established act, who had like 50 hits, I'd like to be able to go online and choose my own 15 tracks and make my own artwork. It'd need to be a really established band like U2 or Rolling Stones. But that's what I'd do if I was them."
