Kaiser Chiefs drummer Nick Hodgson has revealed that he has quit the band.

The drummer, who also co-wrote all of the band's songs, revealed the news today (December 4) via Twitter.

Posting on the social network, Hodgson wrote: "I can confirm I have left Kaiser Chiefs after 15 spectacular years. I'm moving on. I wish the rest of the band the very best!" Lead singer Ricky Wilson responded to the news, meanwhile, by adding: "The door is on the latch and the key under the mat. X"

An official statement from the band reads: "We can confirm that Nick has decided not to be in the band any more and that our show at Reading Festival in August was his last as a member of Kaiser Chiefs." Meanwhile, Bass player Simon Rix also expressed his well wishes to Hodgson, tweeting: "I can exclusively confirm we will still be collaborating on pints in pubs."

Kaiser Chiefs recently confirmed they will open the new Leeds Arena when it opens in September 2013. The band's return to their hometown will come after a busy year of touring which will include dates in South America and supporting Green Day on their European tour.

The band's extensive UK tour will include 13 shows, beginning at Carlisle Sands Centre on February 11 and ending at London's O2 Academy Brixton on March 1. The run of shows also includes gigs in Glasgow, Dunfermline, Manchester, Bridlington, Newcastle, Preston, Cheltenham, Wolverhampton, Southampton, Margate and Cambridge.

Away from the band, Hodgson runs the Chewing Gum record label and owns the Chewdio record label where bands such as The Vaccines, Mark Ronson and Ryan Jarman have all recorded material.
