KANYE WEST has scooped ten nominations for the 47th annual GRAMMY AWARDS at an announcement in LA.



Among the categories the hip-hop writer and performer has been shortlisted for are Best Rap Solo Performance, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Album for his effort ‘The College Drop Out’.


That record was also nominated for the Album of the Year prize, though it will face with competition from Ray Charles & Various Artists for ‘Genius Loves Company’, Alicia Keys' ‘The Diary of Alicia Keys’, Usher’s ‘Confessions’ and Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’.


In addition to strong showings from Keys and Usher, both tied with eight nominations, Green Day pulled in a mighty six nominations including Record of the Year for their single ‘American Idiot’ and Best Rock Performance By A Group.



They’ll face off for that award against [/a]’s ‘Take Me Out’, The Killers’ ‘Somebody Told Me’, U2’s ‘Vertigo’ and Elvis Costello & The Imposters' ‘Monkey To Man’.


[a] managed to pick up a handful of nominations including Best Short Form Music Video, and they’ll take on The Killers, PJ Harvey, Modest Mouse and Wilco for Best Alternative Music Album.



British soul singing teen Joss Stone made a strong showing of her own, picking up nods for Best New Artist, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for ’You Had Me’ and Best Pop Vocal Album, where she’ll face competition from Brian Wilson’s ‘Smile’.


Other UK acts taking home a nominations were Seal, Paul McCartney & Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, Annie Lennox and Coldplay who received one nomination, for Best Long Form Music Video for their 'Live 2003' DVD.



The Grammy Awards ceremony will take place on February 13 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
