Kanye West threw a tantrum as the MTV Video Music Awards came to a close last night (September 9).

West was nominated in five categories including Male Artist of the Year (which he lost to Justin Timberlake) and Video of the Year.

When he failed to pick up a single gong, he erupted backstage.
"That's two years in a row, man ... give a black man a chance," West reportedly yelled as he waited to enter an elevator. "I'm trying hard man, I have the ... No. 1 record, man."

West goes head to head with 50 Cent tomorrow when their respective albums ‘Graduation’ and ‘Curtis’ are released.

50 Cent[a/] says he will not record another record if West’s album outsells his.

The pair presented the award for Most Outstanding Collaboration to [a]Beyonce for her ‘Beautiful Liar’ duet with Shakira. They emerged on stage from opposite sides and had a stare-down, during which West had to stand on tip-toes.

Earlier in the evening, 50 Cent told MTV that the record-release showdown is “competitive without it being a negative.”
