Kanye West already apologising after Taylor Swift MTV VMA stage invasion

Kanye West has apologised after invading the stage during Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards last night (September 13).

The rapper-producer objected after the singer won the Best Female Video award for 'You Belong To Me' ahead of Beyonce's 'Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)'.

West took to the stage towards the end of the singer's speech, echoing his protest when he lost out to Justice at MTV's European awards in 2006.

"Now Taylor I'm really happy for you, I let you finish," he declared. "Now Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!"

The incident was greeted by a mix of cheers and boos from the audience, which included Beyonce herself.

Ironically, the former Destiny's Child singer later won the night's leading prize, Video Of The Year, for 'Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)', and invited Swift back onstage when she collected her award.

Those who objected to West's intervention included Kings Of Leon drummer Nathan Followill, who posted on Twitter: "At least we got to see the worst haircut since 1984 try to steal the spotlight from lovely Taylor Swift."

West has since apologised, admitting: "I'm in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment, Beyonce's video was the best of this decade... I'm sorry to my fans if I let you guys down... I'm sorry to my friends at MTV... I will apologize to Taylor."

Swift meanwhile suggested to People.com that West had ruined her moment.

"I was standing on stage and I was really excited because I'd just won the award and then I was really excited because Kanye West was on stage," she said. "And then I wasn't excited anymore after that."
