Kanye West visits Occupy Wall Street protests
The hip-hopper takes a stroll around Zuccotti Park with Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons
Visiting the Zuccotti Park camp yesterday (October 10), the hip-hop star walked through the crowds, but did not take the opportunity to perform a set for the protestors, unlike Talib Kweli and Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel, who have both visited the Manhattan camp and played impromptu gigs.
After their visit, Simmons tweeted: “I just walked @kanyewest through the #occupywallstreet. I love how sweet and tolerant he was to the crowd.”
According to Pitchfork, another tweeter asked Simmons why the multi-millionaire Kanye West was at demonstrations and Simmons responded: "It's inspiring to others to see him there. Maybe he and other concerned artists will organise [a] big rally?"
Demonstrations similar to the Occupy Wall Street actions are now underway in more than 70 cities across the world.
