Kanye West will perform at MTV's Video Music Awards (VMAs).

The rapper joins Lady Gaga on the line-up for the annual bash, which will take place on August 25 at Brooklyn's Barclays Centre in New York. After playing 'Yeezus' track 'BLKKK SKKKN HEAD', West will have performed at the awards ceremony seven times and has picked up three gongs.

Lady Gaga will perform 'Applause', the debut single from her forthcoming fourth album 'ARTPOP', which will be released on November 11.

Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are the leading contenders for this year's VMAs, picking up six nominations apiece. Timberlake's 'Mirrors' will compete against the duo's 'Thrift Shop' for the top prize of Video Of The Year, with Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines', Taylor Swift's 'I Knew You Were Trouble' and Bruno Mars' 'Locked Out Of Heaven' also in the running.

Mars received a total of four nominations for this year's awards. Thicke, 30 Seconds To Mars, Miley Cyrus and Pink will all compete in three categories, while Drake, Calvin Harris, Taylor Swift and Fun are up for two prizes each.

The MTV VMAs were launched in 1984 and Madonna has been the biggest winner over the years, collecting 20 "Moonman" gongs between 1986 and 1999. Timberlake has already won seven VMAs as a solo artist and another seven as a member of 'NSync.
