Kanye West has been charged with battery and attempted grand theft following his scuffle with an LA photographer in July, Reuters has confirmed.

The rapper is now due in court in LA on October 10 for an arraignment, at which point he will hear the charges made against him and have the opportunity to plead guilty or not guilty. Each of the two charges West faces carries a maximum punishment of six months in prison.

The alleged incident took place on July 19 at LAX airport and gossip website TMZ later posted video footage online - watch it below. The video shows West initially trying to ignore questions from a photographer before appearing to lose his patience and beginning an agitated conversation with the snapper.

The rapper then tries to seize the photographer's camera in a scuffle which sees the paparazzo fall to the ground. After being urged to stop by an onlooker, West holds his hands up and walks away.

West has endured a difficult relationship with the paparazzi in recent months and TMZ posted separate footage of him ranting at a snapper on May 11 of this year (2013) and then arguing with another photographer on July 12, a week before the incident for which he is now facing charges.

Meanwhile, West is booked to appear on the first episode of the new series of Later... With Jools Holland this coming Tuesday (September 17). Kings Of Leon, Drenge and Lorde are also scheduled to perform during the episode.
