US president Barack Obama has described Kanye West's music as "outstanding".

The politician and the rapper have had a fraught relationship in the press, with Obama describing West as a "jackass" after he famously interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the MTV VMA's in 2009. He then used the term in reference to the hip-hop star again in April 2012 when he admitted that he preferred West's Watch The Throne partner Jay Z.

In a new interview with People magazine, Obama was asked whether he would rather socialise with West and his wife Kim Kardashian or the cast of the US TV show Duck Dyntasty. Although Obama said he'd choose the TV stars, he added: "Kanye's music is outstanding though. I've got a lot of his stuff on my iPad. If it was a concert, then I might not mind listening to him."

Earlier this month (December 8), Kanye West spoke about his plans for the follow-up to his recent album 'Yeezus'. The rapper, who said he wants to release the LP in the summer of 2014, said: "I think my next album is going to be eight songs," he said. "It's just reducing down the amount of information that you need. People say a design is the point where you can't take anything else away. ['Yeezus'] was very, very designed."

'Yeezus', which is West's sixth studio album, was released in June of this year and went on to debut at Number One on the Official UK Albums Chart.
