Fans call for Taylor Swift to present Kanye West with award at MTV VMAs

The pair have patched things up since their infamous 2009 incident

Fans have called for Taylor Swift to present Kanye West with an award at this weekend’s MTV Video Music Awards.

The MTV VMAs 2015 will be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday (August 30) and West will receive the ceremony’s highest honour, the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Previous recipients of the award include Michael Jackson, Madonna, Peter Gabriel, Guns N’ Roses, Beastie Boys and Beyoncé. In a press statement, MTV honoured West for his “ground-breaking videos, legendary performances and continued impact of music, art, fashion and culture”.

Ahead of Sunday’s ceremony, many fans have called for Taylor Swift to honour West with the award to put an end to the infamous “Imma let you finish” incident that took place at the 2009 VMAs.

The rapper interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech six years ago, claiming onstage that Beyoncé should have won the award for Best Female Video instead of winner Swift.

The pair have since patched things up, with a collaboration rumoured to be in the works.

Taylor Swift recently said of West: “He’s got a lot of amazing ideas… He’s one of those people that’s just like idea, idea, idea”.

She added: “He’s very creative and… I think we’ve talked about it but we’ve also talked about so many other things… I completely respect him as a producer. So, that’s all I know now.”

Hosted by Miley Cyrus, the 2015 MTV VMAs will feature musical performances from a number of artists including The Weeknd, who will perform his hit single ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ live on TV for the first time ever.

West headlined FYF Fest in Los Angeles on Saturday night (August 22), performing a set that included an impromptu appearance by Rihanna. The singer was watching the show from the audience when West handed her the microphone during a performance of their hit ‘FourFiveSeconds’.

Rihanna sang the track from the pit but later joined the rapper onstage for a rendition of his 2010 single ‘All Of The Lights’.
