Kasabian to snub festivals in 2009?

Band say they may give festivals a break until 2010

Kasabian have said that they may shun festivals next year, instead concentrating on their own tours.

The band said they were worried about boring fans by repeatedly playing the same events, and admitted that they aren't too pleased about the living arrangements they have to contend with at the bashes.

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat guitarist Serge Pizzorno said: "The problem [with festivals] is all the same bands play the same year. You get the same headliners, nothing really happens.

"We might not do any next year and wait until 2010. Then when we do turn up, everyone's gonna be like, 'Wow this is going to be special, this is going to be incredible', rather than, 'Oh it's them again'. And again."

Lead singer Tom Meighan added that he got bored easily at festivals, and would rather relax in a hotel.

"I don't really enjoy it [festivals]," he said. "I don't really like hanging around. If we're playing it's great, but the toilets, the portaloos, the whole situation's horrible. Stick me in a hotel room or something, I'm alright."

Pizzorno said the band had extensive touring plans for next year, despite their attitude towards festivals. "There's gonna be a hell of a lot of noise," he said, "it'll be almost deafening. We'll be banging on everyone's door."

"You get the same headliners, nothing really happens." - Regardless of whether you think these guys are now prima donnas or are being cocky, this is a good point. The major festivals, to an extent, are going a little stale. I mean, who hasn't had the chance to see the Foos, Chillis, Killers, Kaisers etc??

e-Go? You'd rather cash-in for yourselves and rip off your fans than play festivals for the experience and to give fans value for money? Wow - your third album must be really awful...Just because you're supporting Oasis, doesn't mean you can become pricks overnight.

What a bunch of twats. How can you get bored at a festival? I suggest the talentless fools boycott festivals full stop. I, for one, would enjoy them a lot more.

I don't think there will be too many disappointed people who like to take in a festival with that news, I thought Kasabian's first album was okay as it was something a little different, once you constantly heard the tracks from the album being played in TV adverts and commercials it tends to get a little tiresome, the second album was just shit, I can only imagine the third we be even worse.

So because Kasabian make music that doesn't sound like all the dross... monotonous indie shite that's currently polluting the British music scene that renders them shit does it? It's unbelievable how many indie fans shit their pants when a band has a bit of self belief and a cocky swagger. So they don't want to do any festivals next year... why's that a bad thing? They're off with Oasis doing shows that will put Glastonbury and anything else to shame. They're skipping festivals for all the right reasons... so they don't become complacent and repetitive. More bands should do the same.

I'm glad someone has some sense on here. They're one of few British bands that have emerged in the past few years that are actually worth listening to. I've seen them live and they're fantastic. It's a shame that they're not playing festivals next year as I thought they'd be perfect for the Friday night headline at Reading but hopefully they'll play that slot in 2010. Their reasons for not playing are definitely justified. If you're going to play the same set every year, why bother? Hopefully I'll get an overpriced ticket off Ebay and catch them an Oasis next summer, those gigs are going to be fantastic.

Kasabian are a great band. I'd probably prefer to see them in a great line up like I am doing with Oasis and the enemy than at a festival anyway. Complaining about the toilets though? Give me a break, what the f**k happened to rock n roll.
