Kasabian preview new material at Royal Albert Hall

Kasabian previewed new material from their forthcoming album 'West Rider Pauper Lunatic Asylum' at the Royal Albert Hall in London last night (March 27).

Performing as part of The Who frontman Roger Daltrey's series of Teenage Cancer Trust gigs, the band opened with heavy, Krautrock-inspired track 'Underdog'.

Named after an 18th century lunatic asylum, 'West Rider...' will be preceded by the band's next single 'Fire'. Wearing a tartan suit jacket and with shoulder length, centre-parted hair, singer Tom Meighan doubled the track's synth line with an impressive falsetto, the crowd taking warmly to its mix rumbling menace and elastic beats.

The band have spent the previous week playing a series of small warm up shows in Margate, Preston and Leeds. Mixing new material with selections from their first two albums, guitarist Serge Pizzorno included lines from Grandmaster Flash's 'The Message' into 'Processed Beats'.

Introducing Kinks-esque new song 'Thick As Thieves' by announcing "Fuck the Queen", Meighan strolled across the stage, routinely instructing the crowd to "put your hands in the air".

Former NME Track Of The Week 'Fast Fuse' was also included in the set, its schizoid gonzo-rock sitting well next to 'Empire''s glam stomp.

The band finished by segueing The Source featuring Candi Staton's rave classic 'You Got The Love' into 'L.S.F' from their debut 'Kasabian'.
